Understand

Program overview

A one-of-a-kind learning opportunity at the intersection of clinical practice and culture. Amideast collaborates with the Egyptian Cultural & Educational Bureau (ECEB) to offer participants a rare and intimate experience of healthcare in Cairo, a vibrant Arab city of 10 million people with a proud history of innovation and care for heritage.

Spend a week exploring aspects of public and private healthcare, from the operating theaters of university hospitals to neighborhood pharmacies, radiology units to cardiology clinics, pediatric oncology to practices of herbalism. Along the way, meet medical practitioners, teaching faculty, pharmacists and young people aspiring to be healthcare providers.

Participants also visit the Pyramids of Giza and the new Grand Egyptian Museum, take a walking tour from Khan al-Khalili to the Citadel and enjoy the Nile by felucca.

The program is open to professionals of all backgrounds. Participants interact with Egyptian peers who are clinicians, clinical educators and other healthcare practitioners, so a background in healthcare, clinical practice, healthcare education, health policy, or medical social science or history is helpful.
